How We’re Rewriting the Book on Purpose-Driven Business
Every once in a lifetime, you nail it. Your sense of why you were put on this Earth and what you should do about it come together around a project. For me, that project is ScalePassion. And by ScalePassion, I mean both the business I founded in 2010 and the book I wrote that will be published in April 2025. Both express my purpose in life, which is to help business leaders reignite their purpose, scale their impact, and build a business that matters.
Which came first, the book or the business plan? Does it matter? Both distill a lifetime of learning and leading myself and my teams; of reading tons of brilliant books and going to countless cutting-edge seminars and then applying what I heard; of aligning myself with incredibly talented people; and, perhaps, of knowing a bit better than many how to connect the dots between our purpose and passion and the product or service we sell.
But this blog is about the book, Scale Passion: A Blueprint for Building Purpose-Driven Businesses. I wrote the book to provide practical guidance to get leaders out of their rut of chasing this KPI or that one, and into their groove of living and working a purposeful life. In it, you’ll learn:
Why capitalism needs to evolve so that it serves all stakeholders.
Why your purpose isn’t something “out there” but “in here” (I’m pointing at my head and heart.)
Mastering the superpowers of purpose, energy, focus, and mindset.
Why reigniting your purpose will completely reset the way you think about motivating your team and aligning them with your business’s vision, mission, and purpose.
How to blow past “accountability” as a core value and embrace real responsibility in your organization.
Of course there’s a bigger picture to all of this. One of the book’s premises is that the more leaders who commit to scaling their purpose—along with their operations and marketing and so on—the better off capitalism and society will be. So there’s a pronounced movement feel to it.
For example, I don’t think it is a coincidence that a center of American capitalism, Harvard Business School, will offer an executive education class called “Growing a Purposeful Leader” in April. Or that I am delivering an opening keynote at Expo West this year!
These are heady times for the ScalePassion team! But we thrive on it because it’s what we’re meant to do. So how about you? What are you meant to do? And how can you bring that passion to your organization? To your life? It has to start with you, but you don’t have to go it alone. Are you ready to scale?
