Eating our own Dog Food
At ScalePassion, we don't just talk the talk. We challenge one another the same way we challenge our clients. Rob calls it “eating our own dog food.”
I’m not sure it’s the best metaphor from a branding perspective, but you get the gist. I mean, if our services were dog food, we’d be the good stuff—the kind that makes your coat soft and shiny and your puppy breath smell like roses.
Anyhow…
That's why we each asked ourselves, “What is my purpose?” Now, I've never considered myself purpose-driven. Sure, I’ve had some successes, but I was on autopilot—moving from one goal to the next without a clear guiding principle.
In essence, I was formless—and that seemed fine until it wasn't.
A health scare a few years back knocked me off my rock. I found myself lost, searching for something meaningful to cling to, something that would not just be a job but a calling. My friend Augi Garred often describes such transformative periods as molting, shedding the old to make way for the new. Then, with the help of ScalePassion's Nick Van Nice, I delved deep into my own story, searching for a spark.
And I found it.
I realized that the moments I was most proud of were never related to the big marketing deliverables, but rather the quiet times when I worked to translate someone's vision into a powerful manifesto or anthem. These pieces weren't just writing; they were emotive and profound, capturing the essence of someone's purpose in a way that felt almost like music.
After months of work, I came to the conclusion that my purpose is to help others find and articulate their purpose through storytelling.
That led me to ScalePassion, where, as Chief Storyteller, my role is exactly aligned with my personal purpose. As I sit here and write this, I realize I’ve never felt more fulfilled in my career.
This realization came to life vividly just the other day during a discovery session with a client. As she shared her story, it was powerful, impactful, and rich with energy. Her purpose, her WHY, was clear when viewed through the lens of her narrative.
Story reveals purpose.
We are shaped by our experiences. Through the good and the bad, our life stories forge our choices and convictions. It’s difficult to see without rolling up your sleeves and removing the layers and layers of life’s wallpaper to find the truth.
So here's my invitation to you: Write your anthem. Dig deep into your experiences, uncover your narrative, and let it resonate. Your story is your strength—embrace it, share it, and witness its transformational power not just in your life, but in the lives of those around you.
In the meantime, I’ve got a full bowl of kibble to chow down.
